The problem

In Inden (North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany), a large solar park is being built near a coal mine. To secure this construction site, Collé is supplying a security mast with smart equipment. This camera security mast is placed on the lookout, but to function it needs a power supply, which is not available on site.

The objective

Firstly, there is an intention to provide low-cost and sustainable power to the construction chain and electrical equipment. In addition, a 360-degree camera security mast has been installed, allowing customers to watch the construction of the park in real-time via the internet. In addition, this security mast provides camera surveillance of the site, using smart functionalities that distinguish between humans and animals, for example. This is in direct contact with the police. This security point also needs a power supply, with a sustainable solution with minimal costs being the strong preference.

The challenge

Besides the power supply for the construction huts and the electrical equipment for the construction of the large solar park that requires a lot of power, power is also needed for the installed security mast, which is much further away. This distance is such that this is not feasible with an extension cord. Another solution is therefore needed to supply power to the security point.

The results

As a solution, we chose to supplement the 45 kVA solar generator on site with a Volta 6 kVA solar generator specifically for Collé’s security mast, and with results! Volta’s 6 kVA solar generator was used for a total of 60 days, from the end of July to the end of September. In the process, a cost saving of over €850 was achieved compared to using a conventional diesel generator and over €1,000 compared to an HVO B100 biodiesel generator. Nearly 1,300 litres of diesel were saved as the PV panels generated more energy than was consumed. This also resulted in almost 4,200 kg less CO2 emissions than a conventional diesel generator and almost 6 kg less NOx. Target achieved therefore!
