Mobile solar panels

Electricity isn't always available on location, whether that's a construction site, a telecom cell tower location, or a section of the road that is under construction. The usual fix is a diesel generator: polluting, loud, and far from pleasant to stand next to. Mobile solar panels solve that. Volta Energy built exactly this: a mobile solar power system that runs your site on renewable energy, wherever it's set up.

What are mobile solar panels?

Mobile solar panels are portable power systems that generate renewable energy on-site and supply it to construction projects, telecom infrastructure, renewable energy sites, traffic control systems, and camera security setups. Each system combines three components: solar panels to generate energy, a battery to store it, and a smart buffer (back-up) to handle peak loads. During the day, the panels generate ample power. At night or without sun, the battery keeps your site running.

Energy consumption and generation are tracked in real time through remote monitoring. As a backup for sustained high demand or extended low-sun periods, each system includes a clean fuel generator running on HVO100 or methanol instead of diesel, which only activates when the battery and solar power genuinely can't keep up.

What are the benefits of mobile solar panels?

Solar panels on a rooftop are a known quantity by now: cheaper than pulling power from the grid, and better for the environment. Mobile solar panels bring the same advantages on location, plus the flexibility to move the entire setup between sites.

Compared to a diesel generator, the difference is bigger still. Because solar and battery cover most of the load and the fuel backup only runs occasionally, a mobile solar system like the Volta typically cuts CO₂ emissions by more than 90%, and by up to 91% for nitrogen on traffic control systems applications specifically, while staying quiet and odour-free on site. That's better for your budget, your neighbours, and the climate.

Frequently Asked Questions about Mobile Solar Panels

  • What are mobile solar panels?
Mobile solar panels are portable, self-contained power systems that combine solar panels, battery storage, and a clean fuel backup to supply electricity on locations without a fixed grid connection.
  • How do mobile solar panels work at night or without sun?
The battery stores energy generated during the day and supplies your site after dark or during low-sun periods. A clean fuel backup only kicks in if demand exceeds what solar and battery can deliver.
  • How much can you save with mobile solar panels compared to a diesel generator?
A mobile solar system like the Volta typically saves around €200 per week in fuel costs compared to a diesel generator, while cutting CO₂ emissions by more than 90%.
  • Are mobile solar panels suitable for traffic installations (VRI) and camera security?
Yes. Mobile solar panels are well suited to VRI and camera security applications, where the load is relatively low and continuous, silent, reliable power matters most. On these applications specifically, Volta systems cut nitrogen emissions by up to 91%.
