A smart solution for smart security

Volta Energy works with companies in remote locations that require a reliable, sustainable power supply, including for smart security solutions. This case study describes how we provided power to a 360-degree camera security mast in a location where there was no mains connection available.

To supply power to the security mast equipped with smart devices, we supplied our Volta 6. This camera security mast is positioned on the watchtower, but requires a power supply to function, which is not available on site.

A 360-degree security camera mast has been installed to enable remote monitoring of the construction work. Progress can be viewed in real time via the internet, and thanks to smart features, the mast has a direct link to the police. This security point also requires a power supply, with a sustainable solution at minimal cost being the preferred option.

The security post that has been installed is a long way from the building’s power supply point. So far, in fact, that an extension cord is not an option. A different solution was therefore needed to supply power to the security post.

The solution chosen was a Volta 6 and it proved a success! The Volta was used for a total of 60 days, from the end of July to the end of September. This resulted in a cost saving of over €850 compared with using a conventional diesel generator. Almost 1,300 litres of diesel were saved. As the solar panels generated more energy than was consumed, the backup generator did not need to kick in even once. This resulted in nearly 4,200 kg less CO₂ emissions than a conventional diesel generator and nearly 6 kg less NOx.

As a result, the security post was able to operate not only reliably, but also quietly and sustainably. Exactly as one would expect from a forward-thinking project.
