Construction new housing estate in Barneveld: 92% of electricity needed generated sustainably

The problem

In Barneveld, construction company Van Gelder is hard at work on a new residential area. For this new construction project, called Bloemendal, a generator was needed to provide electricity to the construction shed and equipment during construction. How do you make sure there is enough power to run this construction project 100% on renewable energy?

Construction new housing estate in Barneveld: 92% of electricity needed generated sustainably

The objective

Of course, during the construction of a new housing development, quite a lot of electricity is needed. However, how nice would it be if the construction of well-insulated and sustainable homes also took place in a sustainable manner? The goal is to have this construction project run entirely on renewable energy while simultaneously reducing costs for Van Gelder.

The challenge

How do you ensure that a new construction project is supplied with all the energy it needs and is also 100% sustainable? The challenge is to find an appropriate solution for energy supply for the construction of the new housing estate.

The results

92% of the electricity for this construction project was generated sustainably. A total of 278 kWh was consumed on the Barneveld construction site during the measured period in August. The PV systems of the generator provided the generation of no less than 256 kWh for this, which means that 92% of the electricity consumed was generated completely sustainably and free of charge. Thanks to the battery pack, the biodiesel aggregate needed only 18 running hours in this month as a backup for the solar aggregate, consuming 88 liters of diesel, a saving of 98% compared to a conventional aggregate. Now that’s efficient work!

Thanks to the combination of the 15 kVA solar genset and the efficient battery pack, Van Gelder managed to save €263 compared to using a conventional diesel genset. Compared to an HBO B100 biodiesel aggregate, savings were even over €500. In addition, 3717.34 kg less CO2 and 3.77 kg less NOx was emitted.

At Volta Energy we are of course very pleased with this result, proving once again that a solar generator really is the future for many locations where a generator is needed. Van Gelder said it hopes to realize similar savings at more locations in the future, as the equipment works many times more efficiently than the conventional diesel generator.

Choose your model

The power generators come in different sizes - from 6 kVA to 120 kVA - so that all construction sites and events can be supplied with renewable energy on site. Our bio-solar-hybrid generators are more sustainable than conventional diesel generators and hybrid diesel-battery generators. When the sun is not shining, our generators automatically switch from solar to battery and then to bio-diesel genset. This way, we make sure you always have power..
