Many construction sites still opt for a conventional diesel generator, simply because it is readily available and rental costs are relatively low. On a construction site, however, such a generator is used for a longer period of time, so the costs at the bottom of the line are cheaper with a Volta Zon generator. Boskalis was keen to test this.

For work in de Steeg (Gelderland), they therefore came to Volta Energy to then use the popular 15kVA Solar Generator. In many cases, we see that a small amount of diesel still needs to be used to carry the entire power supply. This was also the case at Boskalis earlier, where only 11 running hours were achieved last month when using the solar generator. The objective? Full power supply without using diesel as an add-on.
Not to use a litre of petrol and still provide Boskalis with all the energy it needs on site. This means that the energy must come 100% from the battery and the solar energy generated. A challenge we are happy to take on! And the outcome bodes well.
Thanks to adjustments in the tuning, however, no more running hours were required this month, something we at Volta are more than proud of!
So the power supply has been running entirely on the generation of energy through the PV panels. Despite the rental cost of a Volta Solar Generator being a bit higher than a diesel generator or HVO B100 biodiesel generator, considerable financial savings were thus realised.
For instance, almost €1,000 was saved compared to a diesel aggregate over the same period and over €1,700 compared to a biodiesel aggregate. The fuel costs that would have been required for a diesel aggregate are higher than the all-in price of a Volta Zon aggregate.
So a nice saving was made financially, but nature was also very happy with the Volta 15 kVA genset. Indeed, thanks to the clean generation of solar energy, almost 1,800 litres of diesel were saved at Boskalis’ works in de Steeg, but also almost 5,800 fewer kg of CO² were emitted and over 8 kg less NOx. A very nice outcome in other words!
The power generators come in different sizes - from 6 kVA to 120 kVA - so that all construction sites and events can be supplied with renewable energy on site.
